Choose the pathway first
A flight is recreational only when flown strictly for personal enjoyment and every condition of the recreational exception is met. Work, business and other non-recreational purposes normally fall under Part 107 or another authorization.
Recreational starting requirements
- Complete TRUST and carry proof.
- Keep the drone within visual line of sight or use a co-located visual observer as allowed.
- Fly at or below 400 feet in Class G and obtain controlled-airspace authorization where required.
- Register when required and comply with Remote ID when registration is required.
Part 107 starting requirements
- Obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate and keep recurrent training current.
- Register the aircraft, comply with Remote ID where applicable and follow Part 107 or obtain the needed waiver or authorization.
